Saltus®
Next generation single-use mixing for liquid-liquid and powder-liquid applications
Meissner has expanded its One-Touch® single-use systems portfolio to include the Saltus® M200 Mixing system. Saltus® provides robust, reproducible, predictable mixing performance for biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes. Designed to incorporate Process Analytical Technology (PAT) while maximizing the benefits of a single-use mixing platform, Saltus® delivers on the promise of next generation single-use mixing.
Saltus® mixing systems are based on a design philosophy that emphasizes usability and automation. From the easy to install, self-deploying, single-use mixing assembly to the fully automated, one-button start of the control system, Saltus® mixers provide unparalleled usability and ease of operation.
Integrated advanced functionality is controlled through a single large format HMI. The Saltus® M200 features recipe storage, on-screen production history, live data capture, advanced user settings, and much more. Operation of the control system is protected by a three-tiered permission level structure, and the system generates non-corruptible batch records at the completion of any process. All process data and alarms are continuously monitored and saved to a local storage device located in a restricted access compartment within the mixer.
The gentle, yet highly effective mixing capability of Saltus® mixing systems is ideal for preparing solutions in a wide variety of applications such as hydration of cell culture media, buffer preparation, product reconstitution from concentrated solutions or powders, homogenization of dispersions or solutions, and chemical inactivation to affect viral clearance all under aseptic operating conditions. An extensive engineering analysis of the Saltus® M200 mixing system was performed using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) study. The resulting data demonstrates the mixer’s overall performance characteristics and mixing capabilities.
Meissner offers four standard single-use mixing biocontainer assembly configurations that are designed to accommodate both powder-liquid and liquid-liquid mixing. Additionally, Saltus® biocontainer assemblies can be customized to meet specific process requirements. Meissner’s proprietary fabrication process allows for a true centerline drain that provides optimized fluid recovery, and up to three sample ports can be accommodated along the side of the single-use assembly. All single-use mixing assemblies are manufactured in an ISO 7 cleanroom environment and provided gamma irradiated at 25-40 kGy prior to delivery. Saltus® single-use mixing biocontainer assemblies are fully supported by an extensive qualification guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Saltus® Single-Use Mixing System?
The Saltus® Single-Use Mixing System is Meissner’s single-use mixing platform designed for biopharmaceutical processing. It is built to provide controlled, low-shear mixing for critical applications while combining disposable fluid-contact components with automated process control and streamlined batch handling.
What is the Saltus® system used for?
The Saltus® system is used for liquid-liquid mixing, powder-liquid mixing, buffer preparation, media hydration, product reconstitution, solution homogenization, suspension preparation, and other aseptic bioprocess mixing operations. It is designed for applications where predictable mixing, low shear, and disposable processing are important.
What types of mixing does the Saltus® system support?
The Saltus® system supports both liquid-liquid and powder-liquid mixing. This makes it suitable for processes such as media preparation, buffer blending, powder incorporation, concentrate dilution, and mixing steps that require efficient blending under controlled conditions.
What are the main benefits of the Saltus® Single-Use Mixing System?
The Saltus® system is designed to provide low-shear mixing, simplified setup, faster changeover between campaigns, and strong process consistency. Its single-use design helps reduce cleaning requirements, while its automated controls help improve repeatability, operator ease, and batch documentation.
How automated is the Saltus® M200 mixer?
The Saltus® M200 is designed as a highly automated mixing platform with integrated control features that support recipe management, operator guidance, process monitoring, and batch data capture. This helps users standardize mixing operations and improve consistency from run to run.
What size is the Saltus® M200 system?
The Saltus® M200 is built around a 200 L mixing platform designed for single-use bioprocess operations. It is intended to support controlled mixing at a practical working scale for development and manufacturing applications that benefit from single-use deployment.
Is the Saltus® system suitable for biopharmaceutical manufacturing?
Yes. The Saltus® system is designed for biopharmaceutical applications where aseptic processing, process consistency, low extractables, and reliable product recovery are important. Its single-use format also supports reduced cleaning demands and streamlined batch turnover.
Why does low-shear mixing matter in biopharmaceutical processes?
Low-shear mixing helps reduce stress on shear-sensitive materials such as proteins, biologics, cells, and delicate formulations. This is important in biopharmaceutical processing because it helps maintain product quality while still achieving effective blending and homogenization.
What is the value of CFD analysis for the Saltus® mixer?
Computational Fluid Dynamics, or CFD, helps evaluate how fluid moves inside the mixing system. For the Saltus® mixer, CFD analysis supports confidence in mixing performance by helping demonstrate flow behavior, blending efficiency, and the predictability of the system under defined operating conditions.
How does the Saltus® system integrate with other Meissner single-use technologies?
The Saltus® system is designed to work with Meissner’s broader single-use portfolio, including biocontainer assemblies, fluid path components, and related support systems. This helps users build more integrated single-use workflows for mixing, transfer, and downstream handling.
What data and compliance features does the Saltus® control system support?
The Saltus® control system is designed to support process monitoring, data capture, batch record generation, and controlled user access. These features help improve traceability, operational control, and documentation in regulated biopharmaceutical environments.
