Pleated, small cartridge filters for critical point-of-use filtration and small batch processing of liquids and gases.

Meissner’s small filter cartridges, or small flow element (SFE) filter cartridges, are offered with the full range of Meissner filtration media to meet flow and throughput requirements for critical point-of-use or small batch applications in liquid or gas service. Meissner SFE filters provide high flow rates and throughputs, low extractables, and broad chemical compatibility to meet a wide variety of small and medium batch processing, where flow requirements are less than 3 gpm (11 L min-1) or 60 scfm (102 Nm3hr-1). A state-of-the-art thermal bonding process seals the filtration media to polypropylene support components and end caps, providing an extremely reliable, rugged, and integral cartridge. No glues, resins, adhesives, epoxies, or other extraneous materials are used. This ensures that SFE filters have extremely low extractable levels and can withstand rigorous mechanical and thermal challenges, including shocks, back pressure surges, and multiple autoclave cycles. SFE filters have extremely broad chemical compatibility. Meissner SFE filter cartridges are available in two sizes, fitting Meissner’s line of SFE all-stainless filter housings or retrofitting competitive small flow housings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are SFE Filters?

SFE Filters are small filter cartridges designed for critical point-of-use or small batch processing applications. They are suitable for both liquid and gas service, providing filtration at the final stage of processing to ensure product purity and system protection.

What applications are SFE Filters used for?

SFE Filters are used primarily in biopharmaceutical manufacturing for critical point-of-use filtration and small batch processing. They are applicable in processes requiring sterile filtration or removal of particulates from liquids or gases in laboratory-scale or pilot-scale production environments.

What specifications or sizes are available for SFE Filters?

Specific size and specification details for SFE Filters are not provided in the current documentation. Typically, small filter cartridges like SFE Filters are available in various micron ratings and lengths to accommodate different flow rates and filtration requirements. For precise specifications, consult the product datasheet or contact the manufacturer.

What makes SFE Filters unique?

SFE Filters are distinguished by their suitability for critical point-of-use filtration in both liquid and gas applications, particularly for small batch processing. Their design supports sterile filtration needs in biopharmaceutical workflows, ensuring high-quality filtration performance in compact cartridge form factors.

How do SFE Filters integrate with other systems?

SFE Filters integrate into bioprocessing systems at the point-of-use stage, typically installed inline within fluid or gas transfer lines. They are compatible with standard sanitary fittings and can be connected to upstream and downstream components to maintain sterile conditions and ensure process integrity.

Are SFE Filters suitable for regulated biopharmaceutical manufacturing?

Yes, SFE Filters are suitable for regulated biopharmaceutical manufacturing environments. They are designed to meet the stringent requirements for sterile filtration and critical point-of-use applications, supporting compliance with industry standards for product safety and process control.

Can SFE Filters be customized?

Customization options for SFE Filters are not explicitly detailed in the available information. However, small filter cartridges in biopharmaceutical applications are often customizable in terms of membrane material, pore size, and cartridge length to meet specific process requirements. Contact the manufacturer for available customization services.

What other products are commonly used with SFE Filters?

SFE Filters are commonly used alongside upstream components such as UltraClamp™ Sanitary Clamps and Universal Lab Stand for secure installation and support. Downstream, they may be paired with monitoring devices like the SGT (Single-Use Gauge Tee) for process measurement. Additionally, support accessories such as the Stainless Steel Stand for FlexFill® Biocontainers facilitate integration within bioprocess workflows.
